Announcing Humanist

I am excited to announce the launched of a new digital product and brand strategy/design practice called Humanist.

Humanist is a strategy and design practice born in Brooklyn with a focus on building awesome digital products and branding. Humanist is passionate about building products people want and brands they connect with.

The Humanist Philosophy

“Form follows function—that has been misunderstood.
Form and function should be one, joined in a spiritual union.”

—Frank Lloyd Wright

At Humanist, the Gestalt idea that, “the whole is other than the sum of its parts,” is an important one. This means, as  Frank Lloyd Wright suggests above, that one must take a holistic view when creating a product. To create products that users want and connect with, brand voice and user experience must be treated as not just parts, but as integrated user systems that harmonize seamlessly into one. Brand voice is part of the final user experience and the way a user experiences a product or service is part of the brand.

To accomplish this everything from business model to brand voice to technology must be considered and aligned with users and their needs. In addition, since our “users” or customers are humans, we must remember that when speaking to humans our products and messages need to be simple and sincere.

Humanist Services

Humanist is a full-service firm focused on creating user-facing systems for digital products (web and mobile apps, e-commerce, etc.). Our services range from user research to user experience design to visual design, branding and positioning, and product management. To help bring it all together, Humanist advocates for and coaches teams on Lean/Agile methodologies. Humanist seeks to help startups, as well as established companies seeking to innovate.
